10 March 2026: After an initial meeting with Simon Duffy on 3 February 2023, a small group of people interested in self-directed support and in developing initiatives around it in Spain continued the conversation and held two further meetings.
Since then, others from different organisations have joined the group, including some who have already been piloting self-directed support since 2024 through innovation projects.
At this stage, the group is exploring the 17 standards outlined in the Self-Directed Support framework, with the aim of developing a shared understanding and a strong foundation from which to support the creation of a hub in Spain.
The intention is that this hub would help safeguard the conditions needed for self-directed support as it was originally designed, while also promoting initiatives that can help move this work forward in the Spanish context.
For now, we have agreed to meet on a monthly basis.
Over the coming months, we also hope to identify someone who can take on a coordinating role and help connect the group with the Self-Directed Support Network, with the aim of formalising our participation.
