Self-Directed Support Network Ireland To learn more, contact Fionn & Jonathan Angus at Fionnathan Productions fionnathan.productions@gmail.com

1. About

The SDS Network Ireland is a coalition of people, families, advocates, professionals, and organisations who believe that everyone should have the right to choose and control their support through personal budgets.

Our aim is to create a strong, collective voice to push for full entitlements to self-directed support in law, policy, and practice across Ireland.

2. Aims

To campaign for clear legal entitlements to personal budgets for disabled people, older people, and family carers.

To build a broad-based coalition of people and organisations committed to advancing self-directed support in Ireland.

To amplify the voice and leadership of people with lived experience and their families in shaping policy and practice.

To share knowledge, tools, stories and evidence that strengthen the case for personal budgets.

To influence government, political leaders, and statutory bodies to adopt a rights-based approach to funding support.

To develop shared messages and a collective strategy for change.

3. Key Activities

Create spaces for collaboration across organisations, regions and sectors.

Identify and dismantle barriers to personal budgets through research and shared action.

Gather and share stories, case studies, and data to demonstrate the value of personal budgets.

Produce joint position papers, briefings and responses to policy developments.

Coordinate lobbying, media, and awareness-raising efforts.

Learn from and connect with international movements advancing self-directed support.

Develop shared resources to support local implementation and systems change.

4. Core Values

Equality and Human Rights: We believe self-directed support is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

Co-Production: We believe change should be led by people with lived experience.

Transparency and Trust: We aim to build trust across the movement through open, honest collaboration.

Diversity and Inclusion: We will include and represent a wide range of voices and experiences.

Solidarity: We will stand together and support each other in our shared mission.

5. Membership

The SDS Network Ireland welcomes individuals and organisations who:

Support the core values and aims of the network.

Are committed to working together to secure legal entitlements to personal budgets.

Contribute time, energy, or knowledge to shared campaigns and initiatives.

There is no membership fee at this stage, but contributions of time and shared resources are encouraged.

6. Supporters and Allies

The network is supported by individuals and organisations who donate their time, expertise or resources to help grow the movement. This may include providers, community organisations, researchers, and family-led groups.

We invite partners who share our values and aims to support the network’s development and become active allies in building a rights-based system of self-directed support in Ireland.
