22 September: Self-Direction Across the Pond

17th September 2026

Members of the SDS Network meet up to discuss the progress of self-direction in their communities, join them.

Join the Self-Direction Center on 22nd September for The Huddle, an online discussion series: this time, the topic is self-direction.

Self-direction isn't just a US story — it's part of a growing global movement, with people across the world pushing for the same thing: real choice and control over their own support. This Huddle crosses the Atlantic to connect with that wider effort. At a moment when self-direction in the US is facing real pushback — from funding threats to growing skepticism about paying family caregivers — it's easy to feel like this fight is happening in isolation. It isn't.

Date: Tuesday 22nd September
Time: 11:30am ET
Venue: Online

Molly Morris, founder of the Self-Direction Center will be joined by Self-Directed Support (SDS) Network colleagues: Simon Duffy (England), Chris Watson (England), Joe Kingdom (Scotland), and Fionn and Jonathan Angus (Ireland), facilitated by Dr. Bevin Croft from HSRI (Human Services Research Institute).

Most of us don't fully know what self-direction looks like in the program next door, let alone another country — so this conversation will start with the basics, and help us to identify some common ground.
