Mapping Self-Directed Support Globally

Complete this survey and help us to measure progress on self-directed support in your country.

What is the global progress on self-directed support?

SDS Network and Citizen Network want to find out how well different countries are doing in developing systems to meet the human rights of people with disabilities and to give people freedom and control over their lives and support.

We've created a survey and we would like you to fill it in for your country. It takes 10-30 minutes to complete the survey — thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and experience!

Self-directed support (SDS) is a system to organise the help people need so that everyone has as much control as possible. It aims to improve the lives of people with care and support needs by empowering them to be equal partners in decisions about their care and support. For example: SDS allows people to choose how their support is provided, and gives them as much control as they want over their individual budget.

We aim to publish maps based on this data early in 2025 and this will also help us see which countries are making the most progress.

The purpose of this work is to inspire change. To show where positive progress is happening but also to challenge countries making less progress to increase the speed of change.

This questionnaire is part of a work conducted by Self-Directed Support Network. It's made up of people and organisations who are leading work in their home country or region on self-directed support. Our goal is to work in partnership with International bodies, especially those led by disabled people, and to help ensure we can achieve citizenship for all.

It is free to join the SDS Network.

If you want to get an idea about the kind of data we're collecting you can see these preliminary slides here which share early data from a number of different countries.
