Rules

1. The mission of SDS Network is to advance the global development of Self-Directed Support.
2. The SDS Network reviews and publishes the Global Standards for Self-Directed Support.
3. SDS Network is governed by the Board and its rules are agreed there.SDS Network is currently hosted by Citizen Network and the intellectual property, brand, and relevant data are the responsibility of Citizen Network.Decisions are ideally by consensus, but if consensus cannot be reached, by majority voting.
4. SDS Network can agree to create a SDS Network Hub (e.g. SDS Network England, SDS Network Research etc.) in partnership with an individual or organisation (e.g. Self Directed Futures or Human Services Research Institute). This body becomes a Partner of Citizen Network.
5. The Partner will appoint a Representative of the Hub on the Board.The Representative becomes a Fellow of Citizen Network and their profile will be linked to the Hub on the SDS Network website and as a Fellow on the Citizen Network website.
6. Hubs can: Agree their own plans and priorities, publish their own statements or research, seek funding and carry out project work
7. Hubs will: Support and help improve the Global Standards for Self-Directed Support, share learning with other network members, contribute to the development of the SDS Network, subject to agreement.
8. Citizen Network will support the SDS Network by: Hosting the website, communicating SDS Network activities, hosting email lists for SDS Network and Hubs, subject to agreement

What is the Self-Directed Support Network?

The Self-Directed Support Network (SDS Network) is a group of people and groups who are working to advance the development of SDS locally, nationally and globally.

What is a SDS Network Hub?

Hubs are points of leadership, they can focus on topics (e.g. SDS Network Research) or on place (e.g. SDS Network Slovakia).

How can I set up a SDS Network Hub?

You apply to the SDS Network Steering Group and if they agree they will grant you a licence to set up a Hub.

Can anyone set up a Hub?

Licences can be given to any person or to a group that has a legal identity.

Can a Hub lose its licence?

If the steering Group feels that a hub is not working effectively to advance the mission of the network it can terminate the licence; but this will never be done without a good reason.

Does it cost money to have a licence?

Licences can be given freely when the hub leaders have no way of raising funding to advance SDS however if funding is available to support the hub then a reasonable contribution back to support the global development of the Network will be agreed.

Can a Hub generate income?

Hubs are encouraged to find innovative ways to find income to support their work including through grants, training, consultancy, events or other services and the SDS Network will help share examples of good practice.

What do Hubs do?

The Hub is free to set its own strategy depending on its local situation its obligation to the whole network is to stay connected and to share what it is learning.
